ComPact, or “Community Pact”, suggests affordability by creating a simple house-shaped shelter using a steel tube system. A sprayed foam insulation coat at the interior of a proposed reclaimed corrugated metal skin will provide insulation values to thermally satisfy each dwelling. The repetition of each module will create a whole entity.

A linking element of the community gardens with the living units is abstracted in the low-E glazed windows. The tinted glazing colors reflect the change of seasons. Porches are integrated to the floor plan of the units establishing a connection not only to the comPact community but also to the neighborhood. Three sustainable strategies are recommended for the living units: solar energy by solar panels, cross-ventilation through two sliding doors located at each end of the unit and a brick lattice wall for heat absorption during winter months. comPact’s goals are to engage, provide shelter, feel identified and offer opportunities for the homeless.
